REPORT: Trudeau Government Not Tracking Outcomes In The Nearly $1 BILLION Syrian Refugee Program

Things such as how many refugees are on welfare aren’t being tracked federally.

As time goes on, it becomes more and more clear to Canadians that the Trudeau government throws around taxpayer money with reckless abandon.
The Syrian refugee placement program is no different.
The Auditor General has reported that the federal government isn’t tracking outcomes in the program, despite a cost to taxpayers of almost $1 billion.
According to the CP, “Markers like how many kids are in school or how many Syrians are on income assistance weren’t being measured between fall 2015 and the spring of this year, the period examined by the federal watchdog, raising questions about what happened to the population once they began to settle in Canada.”

Program went way over-budget:

The Trudeau government initially said the program would cost $250 million. Instead, costs are up to $950 million. That doesn’t even account for the ongoing cost to government social programs – particularly the welfare system.
In fact, those long-term costs were a concern at the time, as the program was seen as not doing enough to prepare for what would happen after people were settled in Canada.
There were also massive overruns:
“It’s been almost two years since the Liberals launched the program they promised during the 2015 campaign — to bring 25,000 Syrians to Canada by the end of that year, at a cost of $250 million. The deadline was later bumped back and the budget exponentially bumped up — just over $950 million has been set aside. One major increase came in settlement funding. Originally, $141 million was set aside to cover four years, but that budget was boosted to $257 million over five years when it became clear the Syrians were arriving with higher-than-expected needs.”
It’s insulting to Canadian taxpayers that Trudeau used the refugee issue to try and boost his electoral chances, then not only watched as the program get far more expensive, but didn’t even track many of the outcomes. It’s total contempt for taxpayers, and a level of incompetence and disregard that is disturbing.
After all, this is the same government that expects us to trust that they can handle our security – despite all the evidence to the contrary.
This incompetence is not only a threat to our financial future, but the security of our country.
